In January 2022, we announced The Christie Charity as our chosen charity of the year in memory of our dear friend and colleague Daniel Bescoby. This charity is close to many of our hearts at LIFT and we knew that Dan’s teammates would want to raise as much as possible in his honour.
Our team effort:
Our team didn’t hold back; as soon as the charity was announced, we had people signing up to get involved in all sorts of events to make the most money possible.
The team at LIFT took part in the following:
- The Manchester half marathon (13.1 miles of running)
- The Yorkshire Three Peaks (approximately 12 hours over 24 miles of rocky terrain)
- Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride (60-mile cycle route)
- Rat Race (a 20-mile obstacle course with running, kayaking & climbing)
As if all of the above wasn’t enough, our Great Place to Work Committee also held events in the office to raise even more money, such as:
- Bake sales
- Payday Lotteries
- Dress down Fridays
It seemed our team were ready to take part in all of the fundraising events they could, and this resulted in a record-breaking amount for us all this year, raising just under £10,000… a fantastic amount and a figure reflecting everyone’s hard work.
We were also able to collect our medal from the Christie, made up of six pieces collected each time a fundraising event took place and this is now proudly displayed in our head office.
However, this record-breaking amount raised was about to get a whole lot better when The Board at LIFT (Mike Holden, Joel Adams and Clive Westbrook) announced they were going to round up our figure raised and then double this amount. This meant our new total was £20,000, plus over £1000 in Gift Aid, making our grand total: £21,357.25!
What is next?
We couldn’t be prouder of our team; such a fantastic amount and so much effort went into every penny raised. After careful consideration and lots of great suggestions from our team, it was announced that Francis House Children’s Hospital will be our chosen charity for 2023.
Each year, Francis House supports over 550 families from across Greater Manchester who are caring for a child with a short life expectancy. They are there for those families through their good days, their tough days, and their final days. You can find out more about them here: https://www.francishouse.org.uk/
As a team, we couldn’t be more excited to get the fundraising started for another wonderful charity and our team continue to amaze us daily with their generosity and drive to help other people. Keep an eye on our social media channels to see what upcoming events we have planned for the year.
