Statistics show that 42% of Brits don’t buy travel insurance – don’t leave it until the departure lounge!
In the excitement of arranging and booking your next holiday it is very easy to overlook the important matter of Travel Insurance. According to a 2024 Forbes Advisor poll, 40% of Brits buy travel insurance when they book a holiday, 14% buy a policy before they leave, 5% get travel cover as part of a packaged bank account, and 42% don’t buy travel insurance at all.
Putting in place appropriate insurance at the time of booking is arguably more important than ticking the box for extra leg room or an on-board meal. This is because most reputable travel policies include cover against cancellation …in fact it is the most common reason to claim on Travel Insurance.
At the time of booking, you are likely to be committing to a significant expenditure that could prove worthless if you overlook affecting Travel Insurance at the time of booking or well in advance of departure.
Such cover ordinarily extends to protect against the following situations;
- You or a travelling companion becomes ill, is injured or dies
- You become ill with an infectious or contagious disease (including contracting Coronavirus-subject to certain Terms& Conditions)
- A close relative, a close business associate or the person you were going to stay with becomes ill, is injured or dies
- Your home is burgled, or damaged by fire, flood or storm
- You or a travelling companion are called for jury service or required as a witness in a court of law.
- You or a travelling companion suffer compulsory redundancy (subject to there being no reason to suggest this was likely to happen at the time of booking)
