Important changes lie ahead in the alarm protection industry – an update

We reported in early May of changes afoot within the alarm security sector affecting BT customers with RedCARE signalling systems scheduled to come into play in August 2025. The changes that were due to take place for centrally monitored alarm system under the ‘BT all IP by 2025’ initiative have now been extended until 2027.
This will give customers more time to migrate from their current landline system onto the updated fibre-optic technology. It is worth pointing out that 2027 is the deadline for this roll out across the whole of the UK and therefore could still happen anytime before now and then.
Aside from this, as at 1st August 2025 BT RedCARE is going to cease to operate their ‘Legacy’ range of monitoring products, including BT RedCARE Classic, GSM, Secure 2, Secure 3, and Secure IP. Going forward, BT will work with a European company called Addsecure to offer their ‘Next Generation Portfolio’ of monitoring products that will include BT RedCARE Advanced, Advanced Extra, Essential, Essential Extra, Essential IP and the Ultimate System.
If you do currently have a BT RedCARE ‘Legacy’ product, you will need to have the monitoring equipment changed by 1st August 2025. Anyone currently having a ‘Next Generation’ product, then your monitoring connection should seamlessly transfer to Addsecure with no further work required.
In summary, all monitored alarms that use a landline to communicate between their alarm and the Alarm Receiving Centre, will need to have their monitoring equipment replaced in the lead up to the January 2027 deadline, regardless of the provider. Any BT RedCARE ‘Legacy’ connection will need to be switched across sooner rather than later to ensure continued monitoring beyond August 2025.
